These images were captured during two trips to Egypt and the United Arab Emirates in connection with the UN climate conferences, UNFCCC COP28 and UNFCCC COP29. Both countries lie along the African–Eurasian flyway, one of the world’s most important migration routes, where millions of birds travel seasonally between Europe, Asia, and Africa.
The region supports a mix of migratory and resident species adapted to a wide range of environments, including deserts, wetlands, coastlines, and mangroves. Species observed include raptors, waders, and passerines, as well as desert specialists that are well adapted to arid conditions. Together, these landscapes highlight the ecological importance of the MENA region as a critical corridor for bird migration and biodiversity.
